Social Learning
SOMERSET ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, Calgary, alberta
The Calgary Board of Education contracted Riddell Kurczaba to design this K-4 school in south Calgary. At 31,000 sq. ft., Somerset Elementary serves as a facility where students can learn and socialize until they move onto larger Grade 5 to 9 institutions. With this in mind, RK set students up for success with interactive learning spaces, as well as by designing the school to reflect its notable social and physical presence within the community.
This project achieves a high standard for new elementary school design, and contains a particular focus on inclusion, openness, flexibility, and technological integration – all in the face of tight budget constraints.
